We were immediately drawn to the movement of the colors in the emerging brand Kelly Lane Collection.

It was the compelling use of color patterns that caught our eye and made us want to see more pieces. Emerging designer Kelly Lane uses color to express herself by blending warm solid colors with splashes of rhythmic bands.  Kelly has a really good eye for which colors work well together aesthetically.  Her collection includes beautiful opaque silhouettes that go great with leggings and boots, all handmade by local artisans in Pittsburgh, PA.

We enjoyed her use of woven fabrics and jersey knits because of their versatility, longevity and ease of movement. Her spontaneous use of color and knits combined with simple design elements makes her pieces comfy go to pieces for work and play. Sustainable eco-fashion, Kelly Lane, will transition easily from day to night and season to season.

Chicago’s Emerging Designer Lara Miller turns 30

By Fashion Editor | Tuesday December 8th, 2009 | 01:30 pm | Comments

lara millerHappy Birthday Lara!  Emerging designer Lara Miller turns 30 this December and she has quite a few accomplishments stacked up under her belt to help her celebrate.  She is hosting a party at her studio in downtown Chicago on December 20th, check out the events calendar for all the details and be sure to stop by and wish her well.  Lara’s emerging fashion brand by the same name is subtle, sustainable and sensational.  A native Chicagoan Lara’s designs encompass the windy city’s architectural and cultural landscape with its towering sky scrapers and wonderful sky line.  Her collections utilize linear geometrical shapes and cut-outs that drape effortlessly over the feminine frame as if they were custom – as good design should be, in our opinion.  Her designs have been featured in top fashion magazines and news about Chicago’s Designers on the Rise.  Lara Millers’ holiday collection is includes a dress with a back cut-out that is simply fabulous.  The back is open but from the front you wouldn’t know it because it zips behind the neck and has short sleeves.  Your exit will be unforgettable with this above the knee vegan hemp silk little black dress.  A girl can never have enough ‘little black dresses’.

Sustainable eco-fashion just keeps getting better and better especially in denim.  To think in the year 2000, just nine short years ago, the emerging fashion brand Kuyichi tried to get the industry use organic cotton they were developing and no one was interested, at least they all said no to them.  Guess what happened next, they decided to do it themselves.  The old saying, if you want something done do it yourself they took it literally.  We’re glad they did.  Kuyichi, is based in the Netherlands emerging designers Solidaridad created an organic jeans brand, Kuyichi, with a focus on sustainable materials; vegetable dyes, recycled cotton, hemp, linen and bamboo.  Their Pure Premium jeans have a great fit and our favorite is the ‘Wendy’ low lean boot-cut in aged indigo with ironed in-creases!

Sameel Kumar – Eco-Friend     This is again one of those instances where a picture speaks a thousand words, maybe even more. It is again amazing how fashion designers across the world have found ways to use the dullest possible trash (& nearly all trash is dull anyway) to carve out some of the most beautiful creations ever known. I’m specially & pleasantly surprised by this awesome collection of clothes. Neither am I a guy who has ever been interested in fashion trends nor do I really believe that having a wide range of wardrobe helps anything. I just feel the more you have, the more you need to take care of them & that is a drag. So quite naturally a conversation regarding fashion trends barely holds my attention (So do most other things).  Read the whole story

Now Blooming | A Green Tradeshow

The Moment | Steffie Nelson |October 21, 2008

Sustainable fashionhas finally outgrown its hemp straitjacket. Just two years ago, when Barbara Kramer and Ed Mandlebaum curated the first “green room” within their bi-coastal trade show, Designers & Agents, pickins were slim. But this past weekend, the pair took over an entire floor of L.A.’s Cooper Building for the introduction of D&A Greenmarket, which featured 50 brands. Said Kramer: “It could easily have been double the size. But the product has to stand on its own as great fashion. The sustainability aspect, to us, is the free gift with purchase.”

At a cocktail reception Saturday evening, the chic greenies Angela Lindvall and Adrian Grenier, her co-host on “AlterEco,” a show on the Planet Green channel, checked out the latest collections from familiar names like Edun, Alabama Chanin and Tom’s shoes.  Read the whole story
