Recycled Soles De la Rue Sandals – Eco-Sassy

By Fashion Editor | Friday January 15th, 2010 | 08:44 am | Comments

De la Rue  joins the Noblivity MarketPlace with their eco-sassy sandals!

Who knew old tries could look so wonderfully chic.   De la Rue is giving us a new visual for the word retreads.

Emerging designer Leticia Calvo Treffot stepped into the shoe industry with a singular focus to create a feminine and extremely eco-conscience sandal that won’t go out of style.

De la Rue’s soles are hand-cut out of old tires guaranteeing that each pair is as unique as the woman wearing them. No two pairs are exactly the same due to the fact that that each recycled tire tread used to produce the soles of their sandals is different.

If tire treads could talk it would be interesting to hear their travel tales.  De la Rue sandals are available in silver/gold or multi/violet with a size range from 6-11 at the MarketPlace Noblivity.com.

Emerging Designers: Naveh Milo Eco-Friendly Recycled GreenBags

By Naveh Milo | Monday January 11th, 2010 | 04:49 pm | Comments

”I am on a never ending journey to the next design.”,  Naveh Milo

Noblivity caught up with Naveh Milo

Company/Designer Name:  Milos Greenbags/Naveh Milo

Designer Background Summary:
I’m 38, from Israel. I spent the last 7 years in Indonesia and started  my business for eco-friendly bags in 2007.
From the age of 15 to 31 I was an athlete. I played Volleyball for the Israeli National team and from 1996-8 for the University of Hawaii.

How did you get started?
I was thinking what products can be made  using the ever present rubbish in the streets of the Indonesian cities.

What inspires your designs?
Making fun, practical everyday bags

How would you describe your design style?
Simple but eye catching

What designers inspire you?
A small secret is that I don’t know any designer apart of the brand name ones that everybody knows. Maybe that’s why I was able to think “out of the box”

What obstacles did you have to overcome?
Working and living in Indonesia poses endless obstacles for a foreigner. I think the biggest one was getting to understand the Indonesian way of life.

How did you overcome them?
I have learned to be patient

What has been your greatest moment on your journey so far?
That my parents who are in their 70’s  get to see and enjoy what I do

What has been the biggest change in your designs so far?
I was the day I discovered the black trim J

If money were no object what would you do right now?
Open a shop for my bags in NY. But this day will come, I’m sure.

What are the best and worst things about being a designer?
The answer for both is that you are in a never ending journey to the next design.

Describe your typical day?
I wake up at 8:30am, have my large mug of coffee and bread. Work until 1pm, go for lunch. Then work until 5pm. In the evening I spend time with my family. When my daughter falls asleep I go for my 4 miles run. Then shower, dinner, answer some emails and go to sleep at 1am.

What’s your philosophy of life?
No fear

What’s your favorite meal time setting?
1pm for lunch, 10pm for dinner

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
Nothing! It is important to make mistakes.

When will you know you have made it?
When I will be able to pay my Indonesian employees a western standard salary. Oh.. and of course, that shop in NY

By Fashion Editor | Tuesday June 16th, 2009 | 01:02 pm | Comments

fire hose beltsAll of E&KO’s items are hand-made and unique from decommissioned fire hose. The hose itself is weathered and marked, the ridges and grooves of a long life are self-evident and no two reds are the same. Some products may have the details of their extrusion and others may bear the name of the company that makes the hose.  The belts are fire and water resistant.  These reclaimed reengineered and recycled belts are sure to be a new favorite especially in the rare yellow color.  The buckles are made from nickel free reclaimed pewter.  In order to thank Britain’s Brigades 50% of our Fire-Hose profits go to the Fire Fighter’s Charity.

All of E&KO’s fire hose lifestyle accessories are available @ The MarketPlace Noblivity.com.

21 Century buzz words: Ethical and Sustainable

By Staff Writer | Wednesday March 25th, 2009 | 06:38 pm | Comments

ethics is the new eleganceWe used to respect the work.  We used to celebrate the way things were made.  We used to know the person who made the product and we understood the work involved.  Furthermore, we wanted to know where the products came from, the supply chain.

We’re getting back to the way things used to be, when we knew where things came from and who made them.  Major companies are searching for sustainable products to compete in the 21st century.  What starts as a luxury will eventually become mainstream.  As more forward thinking emerging designers bring their products to market using an ethical supply chain from start to finish, consumer demand will increase and more companies will participate.  The cost of these products will come down and it will be the norm.  Awareness levels continue to grow especially now as the nation moves towards more ‘green’ job creation and conversation.

Eco fashion designers are leading the charge producing sustainable clothing using avant-garde resources, such as milk fiber, pine needles, various recycled products and a host of other items.  Handbags made from candy wrappers are all the rage.  Innovative bamboo knits and organic cottons are making their way down the runways of LA and New York in the highly coveted Fashion Weeks.

International Herald Tribune | “Sustainability” and “responsibility” are the new buzz words. The first is a necessity in a market where credit is no longer as easy to find as a cappuccino. Significantly, Barneys New York has put its dynamic retail force behind sustainable and environmentally friendly clothing. The company, which has always searched for upcoming designers, has now put a focus on organic knits, eco-friendly cottons, grown-to-sewn denim and even recycled gold jewelry. E&KO: from Fire Hose to Fabulous Handbag

By Fashion Editor | Friday March 20th, 2009 | 03:31 pm | Comments

from fire hose

Ever wondered what happens to industrial fire hoses that can no longer be used to put out fires or those excess commercial burlap coffee sacks?  A British company, Elvis & Kresse Organization (E&KO), takes these untapped resources and turns them into beautiful handbags.  Fire houses across the UK are supplying this emerging designer label with urethane tube construction, fire hoses, for their product line and EaKo is donating 50% of their profits to the Fire Fighters Charity.  After removing all the dirt and grime from the hoses history the process reveals a reusable green textile that EaKo turns into classic handbags using skilled leather craftsmanship.  EaKo’s environmental products are the cornerstone of their brand.  E&KO joins the Noblivity MarketPlace where the full product line is available at Noblivity.com.

Sameel Kumar – Eco-Friend     This is again one of those instances where a picture speaks a thousand words, maybe even more. It is again amazing how fashion designers across the world have found ways to use the dullest possible trash (& nearly all trash is dull anyway) to carve out some of the most beautiful creations ever known. I’m specially & pleasantly surprised by this awesome collection of clothes. Neither am I a guy who has ever been interested in fashion trends nor do I really believe that having a wide range of wardrobe helps anything. I just feel the more you have, the more you need to take care of them & that is a drag. So quite naturally a conversation regarding fashion trends barely holds my attention (So do most other things).  Read the whole story
