Ever wondered what happens to all of that excess fabric after a clothing line is produced? You know those small scrap pieces or those large do-over pieces? Well, rest easy, Looptworks is up-cycling this excess fabric and creating emerging fashion with urban aesthetics. Yes, cool clothing made entirely from unused fabric that factories would have thrown out. So the pieces you buy from Looptworks is limited edition because production colors and pieces are determined on the excess they are able to salvage and reuse. Feeling special? Right again, Looptworks gives each of us a chance to buy 100% pre-consumer waste that they have transformed into amazing jackets, hoodies, skirts, shirts and of course graphic tees in limited quantity. So when they put out a collection you had better move quickly because it will be gone!

The GoGo Gear Scooter Girls Collection is now available at The MarketPlace Noblivity.com
When we saw this line we looked at each other and at the same time said, “Why did it take so long”? in perfect harmony. Singers we’re not but style finders, now that’s what we do or at least we like to think so. Stylish motorcycle apparel for women that ride that has all the safety features a biker/rider would want in bike gear. What do you think of when you hear the term ‘biker gear’ or the term ‘scooter gear’? Whatever your thoughts were, Los Angeles-based Scooter Girls, Inc., will change them and give you a whole new fashion paradigm. Emerging designer Arlene Battishill has it hit it out of the park with the introduction of her emerging fashion brand GoGo Gear. The form fitting waterproof coats have a sexy European look with a creative button pattern, tailored collar, cuffs and belt styles. The safety features include abrasion-resistant fabric, armor protection in the elbows, back and shoulders, and reflective collars. The coats have a glamorous sophistication all their own that we have not seen in this niche market. They are showing in London and Milan in the European market where riding scooters is part of the norm in hopes of filling a void and attracting stores to carry their brand. In the US market the choice will be between what was and GoGo Gear a new entrant. GoGo Gear hits the stores in January, so you’ll have to wait till after the Holidays but it will be worth the wait.

With half of the year behind us what have we learned? Good design withstands the test of time in economic downturns and fashion design is no exception. More emerging designers are stepping in and stepping up to take their turn as visionaries turning their ideas into material innovations. We were fortunate to be able to take part in several fashion brand launches and meet a string of dedicated designers with that intense ‘eye of desire’. The desire to be heard, seen and taken seriously as fashion players in their own right as they worked tirelessly to bring possibility into reality in an environment where truly only the strong survive. Looking on with fascination from the outside, fashion design looks glamorous and it can be much later in the process but in the beginning not so much. Like anything worth having dedication, hard work and a tinge of insanity are necessary. These fashion warriors deserve our appreciation for the sheer fact that they made it happen one stitch at a time bringing to us emerging fashion with bold colors, alluring patterns, exotic textures, innovative fabrics such as milk, pine needles, wood, bamboo, corn, cork and recycled fire hose. Without the emerging designer our fashion choices would be very selective and possibly boring. They charge on continuing to open up new fashion inroads for all of us to travel every day creating billboard eye candy for our insatiable fashion sweet tooth to enjoy on the trip. Our hearts and hand claps are for all the emerging designers in the trenches making it happen every day. Keep up the amazing work we applaud you!

All good things come around again and so it is for one of our all time favorites the wooden clog. Clogs rose to their height of popularity in the 70’s and 80’s where it seemed everyone owned a pair guys and girls. Emerging designer Anita of fashion brand Swedish Hasbeens uses the influences of the 70’s to bring the nostalgia of disco back with these handmade wooden gems These clogs are really hip like your mom’s clogs but they are not from the good times of yesteryear these are colorful clogs with class. This company uses natural grain leather in a small Swedish factory to hand-manufacture shoes that once ruled the planet.

In 2008 Swedish Hasbeens was recognized as one of Sweden’s fastest growing emerging fashion brands. No two are made exactly the same but all have a 3.5 inch wooden heel and retail for about $200. We loved them then and we love them now. Clogs still rule!

This is really a cool idea with a great little play on the familiar. Emerging designers Jesse Burnett and Carly Mandelbaum founded Trove Tkees. Together they created a line of leather thong flip flops, nothing out of the ordinary so far but wait. These comfy flip flops are referenced using cosmetic jargon. That’s brilliant, at least we think so, because most women know what foundation, liners, shadows, lipstick and blush are and what color looks best on them. Tkees flip flop colors are available in cosmetic shades so you can match your skin tone.
