FashionMiami Launches Miami Design District
FashionMiami” aims to turn that spotlight on fashion and create a destination for designers, press and buyers and will launch this Winter of 2010, with a schedule of Fall/Winter 2010 collection runway shows and events taking place from March 10 - 13 at the stunning 35,000sqft temporary structure in the heart of the Design District.

For the first time, an emerging designer, Loin Cloth and Ashes, from Tanzania, will also be part of the collective ensuring a triumvirate of African Design is represented. “My one dream was always to show my work in Africa,” said Anisa Mpungwe. “I would have never for one minute thought that I would ever show overseas, let alone in America, I am grateful to ARISE Magazine for this incredible opportunity.”
In addition to the New York show, ARISE Magazine will present during Paris Fashion Week on March 5, 2010, and host a Fashion Rocks! event in Johannesburg on July, 9, 2010. The Art Institute of Charleston is sponsoring the Emerging Designer Competition during Charleston Fashion Week May 16 – 20, 2010.
The week long activities, in this historic city, continue to garner attention from the fashion industry and ‘designers on the rise’ with the hope of seeing their creations in stores. This annual competition, now in its 4th year, has launched the careers of several designers who were tapped to participate in the coveted Project Runway series.
The winners of the designer competition will receive:

Emerging Designers Receive An A+ Opportunity
A+ showcases emerging talents alongside some 200 established contemporary design resources exhibiting in Accent on Design. This type of participation offers young designers and new companies an affordable opportunity to expose their concepts, prototypes and finished products to the wholesale marketplace. The program, which was launched in 2008, accepts applications from nascent designers, including students, recent graduates, or new companies in business for one year or less.
