Getting it right takes time and commitment something emerging designer Richard Brown knows firsthand it took him 12 years to launch his chemical-free eco-fashion line. There’s an old saying that states, ‘anything worth doing is worth doing right’ something Richard took literally. Emerging fashion label Itsus is raising the bar in the eco-fashion space, his line is eco-friendly in every detail. There are many fashion lines that are tagged eco-friendly but now having heard Richard Brown’s fashion line’s story we are asking what makes eco, well eco. There seems to be degrees of eco because Itsus is 100% eco right down to the threads used to stitch the organic fabrics together, the wash used to pre-shrink their pieces and of course the dyes used to make their beautiful graphics. He has raised our awareness about the process that garments claiming to be eco should consider. This is a moving target and eco-fashion is coming of age. The pieces are soft, practical and inexpensive. The collection includes day to day tops and graphic tees for both women and men. Check out Itsus byfaircompanies.com.
We like plaid and we’re not ashamed to say so especially on men. Plaid may have received a bad break in years past but we simply disagree. Plaid is hot, chic and oh so sexy. Emerging designers Palle Bruun Rasmussen and Michelle Larsen, Denmark’s dynamic duo, are breathing new life into plaid menswear among other things. Revolution, their emerging fashionbrand, is committed to sportswear with a strong graphic attitude that continues to develop bit by bit. Revolution offers a fresh take on ‘cool’ urban menswear including our favorite the bold plaid shirt in blue and red, jeans, tees and jackets.
What makes a good bag? We have seen our share of bags and not all of them are what we would call a ‘good bag’. Keeping in mind that ‘good’ is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, here are a few characteristics that we find that are consistent in ‘good bags’. Construction that is built to last and not just from the store to your home but for years and years – they must wear well. Classic construction, say what you want to say but things used to last, and minimal details don’t go out of style so quickly and can stand the test of time. Trendy bags usually end with the trend and get tossed. California emerging designerBeth Springer uses minimalist design with quality construction for her line of handbags. Strong, durable bags that do no harm, her ethos, Beth uses reclaimed leather, organic hemp and cotton linings, and topped off with recycled paper for the tags that are attached with organic hemp cord. No waste is her handbag policy. We don’t care how well the bag is constructed, it if doesn’t have visual appeal all bets are off. First and foremost a ‘good bag’ must catch your eye so that you want to explore the other features, such as construction, design, functionality and practicality. Beth Springer bags are subtle eye poppers and you can immediately see the quality of construction and her distinctive design details the fact that they areeco-friendlyis a bonus.
Blumera Handbags are the right size, shape, texture and quality with subtle sophistication.

We have found in the Resort Collections that blue, in fabulous shades, is making its own statement that will carry throughout the Spring 2010 collections.
We still have not seen the last of animal prints and we’re delighted because animal prints made our top 10 ‘must haves’ list for 2009. We’ve got a feeling blue is going to give animal prints a good run during the Spring and we look forward to seeing how that story plays out. Emerging designer Mehera Blum designs functionally luxurious bags are for the savvy woman who is confident in her own skin and not afraid to show it. What inspires a designer to create is as different as the designs created and the people to are attracted to them. We’ve found independent designers who have their own unique following because their work speaks to them. Emerging designer, Tiffany Strassman, is no exception although her inspiration seems to have reached the National Hockey League and continues to grow in favor with eco-conscious consumers and people who appreciate reconstructed vintage. It always pleasantly surprises us as we travel about in search of emerging designers tinkering away what they see in the ordinary and how they blow a little pixie dust on it and the end result is funky futuristic or nostalgic vintage.
Tiffany created California based LTR Brands using organic bamboo threads, organic dyes and vintage pieces she reconstructs. Her collections are made in the USA and eco-friendly. She has wrapped her vision around eco-fashion and the premise that when a person is given the choice of wearing something that is good for them and good for the environment they will chose it. Bamboo fabric has become quite popular on the runways because it is naturally porous so it absorbs moisture and wicks it away from the skin keeping our temperature regulated while retaining their anti-fungal and anti- bacterial properties.
The wardrobe ‘must haves’ this year have been pretty steady and include; leggings, leopard print of some sort, boy friend jackets, over the knee boots and the all time favorite leather bomber jacket. Tiffany created a lambskin leather bomber jacket with hoods tooth lining and gold hardware for the adventurer in us all.
