Noblivity‘s Conversation with Lee Phutrakul for Chulette…”I woke up one day and I decided “you know what? I am just gonna do it.”,  Lee Phutrakul

Chulette Designer Background Summary:

I got into fashion industry working at Esquire Magazine in Thailand as an assistant fashion editor. Then I took some time off to go back to school for fashion design at Columbia College Chicago. Then I moved to NYC. I interned at Libertine and Catherine Malandrino…and here I am !

Noblivity: How did you get started?
Chulette:  After internship, I realized I would be much happier designing something I love rather than working with someone else’s vision. So one day, I woke up and I decided “you know what? I am just gonna do it!”  The experience in advertising, styling, running my other business, I acquired over the years have helped me tremendously on running Chulette.

Noblivity:  What inspires your designs?
Chulette:  My mood, fabric, color, nature, movement. Pretty much all things around me.

Noblivity:  How would you describe your design style?
Chulette:  Casual sophistication

Noblivity:  What designers inspire you?
Chulette:  I don’t really have particular ones in mind.

Noblivity:  What obstacles did you have to overcome?
Chulette:  Self doubt.

Noblivity:  How did you overcome them?
Chulette:  I still can’t overcome it completely. I guess it’s part of the process.

Noblivity:  What has been your greatest moment on your journey so far?
Chulette:  Every time I hear a sincere compliment on my work, that’s a great moment for me. Always makes me smile.

Noblivity:  Where are you headed personally and professionally?
Chulette:  Well.. one day I want to live right on the beach.

And of course, I would love to see my businesses become very successful.

Noblivity:  If money were no object what would you do right now?
Chulette:  Buy a cute house right on the beach! lol

I’ve been daydreaming about opening a concept store/wine bar that I can combine all the things I love; clothes, design home decor item and great food & wine.

Noblivity:  What are the best and worst things about being a designer?
Chulette:  Ego

Noblivity:  Describe your typical day?
Chulette:  work..work..work..ok maybe take couple breaks in between and play games on my iphone :)

Noblivity:  What’s your philosophy of life?
Chulette:  I believe in karma.

Noblivity:  What’s your favorite meal time setting?
Chulette:  Casual light dinner with great food, great wine and having great conversation with someone you care about.

Noblivity:  If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
Chulette:  I might have started my line a few years before I did. You know..when people were still spending some money..lol

Noblivity:  When will you know you have made it?
Chulette:  good question…I am still figuring that out.
